Numerical study of rock joint shear failures and implications to fault slip mechanics

This thesis examines the failure of rock structures and the associated risks they can cause to nearby underground excavations. It highlights that factors such as the rock structure roughness and underground stress conditions will affect the severity of failure by the amount of energy released, and establishes the correlation between these factors.
