Numerical modelling and analysis of particle-fluid flow and wall erosion in centrifugal slurry pump

thesis
posted on 2023-12-03, 20:03 authored by HAOYU WANG
The centrifugal slurry pump is widely used across industries for the transportation of particle-fluid slurries, which exhibit entrained flow and erosion severity. Numerical modeling shows promise in realistically analyzing this system and providing insightful flow information. This project developed two different models, namely DDPM and CFD-DEM, based on the Euler-Lagrange framework. The DDPM model was used to study the effects of characteristic variables and geometrical retrofit. The CFD-DEM model was used to analyze particle-fluid interaction in detail. Both models were validated against experiments conducted on a jet erosion test and clear water performance. The developed models demonstrate a strong capability for further application in turbomachinery processes.
