The multi-physics and multi-phenomenon in the laser powder bed fusion process are investigated mathematically. However, some fundamental questions are still not well addressed regardless the model development or physics understanding. This project develops a three-phase model that can be used to reveal the dynamics of melt pool and pores formation, which enhances the further understanding of the multi-physics of powder melting and defects formation in the laser powder bed fusion process.
