Novel Therapeutics for the Treatment of Stroke

thesis
posted on 2023-06-13, 22:34 authored by ADRIANA KNEZIC
Despite the incidence and devastating consequences of stroke, there are relatively few treatments for stroke victims. To address this unmet need, we assessed two potential new drugs, C21 and Hi1a, to evaluate whether they could be protective against stroke. In order to do this, we optimised a pre-clinical animal model of stroke. Unfortunately, C21 had limited effects in the context of stroke. However, excitingly, using a clinically relevant model of stroke and method of drug delivery, we found that Hi1a minimised sensory- and weight-loss caused by stroke. This highlights Hi1a as a potential drug candidate for the application of stroke.
