This study discusses the impact of technological advancements on digital content, highlighting both their advantages and vulnerabilities. It focuses on the challenges of unauthorized distribution, manipulation, and disinformation in the context of digital images, emphasizing the importance of watermarking to address these issues. This research aims to develop image watermarking techniques that improve robustness, capacity, and imperceptibility simultaneously, bypassing the conventional trade-off triangle. Additionally, it explores image watermarking systems based on salient object detection for resilience and imperceptibility while embedding a high payload and investigates the use of watermarking technologies in securing new visual-based media, for example HDR images.
