Quinolones are the most used classes of antibiotics which has developed resistance towards multi-drug resistant bacteria. Development of new antibiotics are urgently needed to tackle this situation. This thesis explored the synthesis and biological evaluation of gallium and indium complexes derived from quinolone antibiotics towards multi-drug resistant bacteria. Comparison of the different antibacterial and cytotoxic activities of these metal complexes allowed for structure activity relationships to be determined, giving important insights for the development metal-based antibiotics.
