Non-pharmacological management and the lived experience of restless legs syndrome

thesis
posted on 2019-06-26, 22:38 authored by ELOISE GRACE HARRISON
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a chronic condition that negatively affects quality of life. This thesis explored effects of non-pharmacological management in a systematic review, an exercise intervention in a randomised controlled trial and the experience of living with RLS in focus groups. Despite some evidence of positive effects, no convincing alternatives to drug management were identified. A novel exercise intervention and focus group attendance were associated with comparable outcomes. This research identified important opportunities for healthcare providers to improve support for people with RLS.
