Acute critical illnesses like sepsis, trauma, and pancreatitis often lead to severe complications managed in emergency care. These conditions cause inflammation that can damage organs, resulting in high death rates. Research shows that harmful substances from the gut travel through the lymph and bloodstream, worsening inflammation and organ failure. To counter this, treatments targeting these substances in the gut are being explored. My research tested materials that block harmful enzymes in the gut and showed reduced organ damage in rats. These findings offer hope for better therapies.
