Navigating Uncertainty: An Ethnography of Everyday Transport with Families of Children with Disability in Australia

thesis
posted on 2024-02-12, 22:03 authored by IRIS MAHER
Children with disability often cannot use standard child car seats because they do not always tend to the child’s physical or sensory needs; they therefore require special purpose car seats. This thesis presents how parents of children with disability go about acquiring these special purpose car seats. It examines the uncertainty parents experience when faced with the organisational and institutional barriers to funding and sanctioning of the use of these devices necessary for their everyday travel.
