This research aims to understand the meaning of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) integration and the related practices in early childhood education settings. Integrating the STEAM disciplines is advocated as a contemporary educational goal in early childhood education. However, the process of integrating STEAM disciplines is rarely defined in the early childhood context. Many claim to ‘integrate’ and ‘devise integration pedagogies’, but there is still no clear-cut message on what integration means and how to integrate STEAM concepts with young children. This thesis provides an insight as to how practitioners navigate the process of integrating STEAM.
