This thesis presents an explorative study of nasal microbiomes and olfactory genetics among the diverse indigenous populations living in Peninsular Malaysia. It characterizes the complex microorganisms community in their nasal cavity and the associations with living environments and obesity. It also identifies the unique variations in olfactory receptor genes, which play important roles in odorant detection.
