Nanoparticles and liquid crystals: the effects of size, shape, shear, surface chemistry, temperature, and concentration on structure and rheology

Nanoparticles and liquid crystals are both materials with a wide array of uses in applications such as drug delivery, biomedical devices, and coatings. This thesis examines how mixtures of these two substances can be tailored for these uses by changing the properties of either component.
