This PhD dissertation dealt with the evaluation of the neuroprotective effect of embelin in Alzheimer’s disease using experimental models. Embelin significantly improved memory functions in rats when assessed using various behavioral paradigms. Based on the behavioral, gene expression and protein analysis, it was found that embelin exerts its beneficial effect via cholinergic, amyloid and vascular pathway in Alzheimer’s like condition. Therefore, embelin could be a potential molecule for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
