Electronic health records (EHRs) have been implemented across the majority of middle-high income counties in anticipation that their use will deliver improvements across the healthcare system. Despite this, the adoption and use of electronic health records is poorly understood, particularly in the emergency department setting where access to historical patient information is vital. Australia’s national EHR, known as My Health Record (MHR), is no exception. This thesis focuses on how MHR has been implemented and adopted in emergency departments. A deeper understanding of such processes will support optimal utility and meaningful use of MHR.
