This thesis embarks on the ultimate question: How to detect moving objects in VVC? Since, VVC is a relatively new codec and no prior research available on moving object detection (MOD) in VVC, the VVC reference software is exploited to extract features to create moving object masks. The results are compared to MOD in the previous coding standard i.e. HEVC, as well as pixel domain approaches. It's found that the proposed MOD in VVC outperforms MOD in HEVC and MOD in pixel domain.
