This thesis seeks to map out a multi-dimensional creative writing strategy referred to as "informed narration" to write about people who lived in the past when little evidence is available about their life. Borrowing from strategies used by historians, journalists and novelists this technique involves gathering what evidence is available, analysing it and using this analysis to inform fictional imaginings to fill in the gaps. The strategy is demonstrated in the creative work, Moses in Egypt, an Australian historical narrative which is presented in a dual-genre format of creative nonfiction and fiction, delineated by chapters.
