The Optima HIV model was applied to assess the impact of scale-up of HIV interventions in Swaziland and estimate the cost per new infection and AIDS-related death averted, as well as to optimize spending for achieving the HIV strategic plan for Armenia and determine coverage required to warrant increased funding for migrant programs. The model was then expanded to generate regional and global optimal resource allocations to minimize new HIV infections from national and subnational HIV resource allocation optimizations to address research and public health HIV questions and to provide evidence for improvements in HIV resource allocation on the global scale.
