T-cells are critical to the immune system in humans. They typically recognise protein fragments known as peptides, but there exist a subset known as MAIT cells that recognise small molecules such as vitamin B metabolites that comparatively little is known about. This thesis develops a new method to discover new MAIT cell ligands and discovers that dietary and other naturally derived molecules can be presented to MAIT cells and other T-cells.
