Molecular and biochemical studies on Filamin A and its interaction with the nucleoprotein of Influenza A virus

The aim of this PhD thesis was to investigate the role of host Filamin A (FLNA) protein in the Influenza A virus (IAV) replication cycle. We found that FLNA plays a protective antiviral role in the host cell against the IAV. In addition, we also found that for successful IAV replication, the IAV nucleoprotein down-regulates FLNA levels as well as sequesters FLNA in order to activate the JNK stress signalling pathway, a pathway responsible for apoptosis induction and cell death.
