This thesis explores the syntheses of donor-bridge-acceptor (D-B-A) photomimics using porphyrin and NDI as possible candidates for photochemical and electrochemical applications. A library of functionalized porphyrin and naphthalene diimide (NDI) derivatives that possess specific binding motifs are synthesized and the binding behavior that leads porphyrin and NDI - both in the molecular and polymeric forms - to act as supramolecular hosts that are studied through the use of various spectroscopic techniques.
