This thesis investigates the role of the fibroblast-growth factor receptor 4 in muscle regeneration and maintenance. The presence of this receptor is important for muscle mass maintenance, glucose metabolism and brown fat development. Additionally, the thesis demonstrates that modified blood cells can fuse to inflamed muscle inside a body. This modified blood cells could potentially be used in the future as transporters of treatments like gene therapy to specifically target diseased muscle.
