The outer boundaries of the growing colonies of bacteria or growing skin tissues or even single eukaryotic cells develop finger-like structures. These structures help bacterial colonies in infecting the virgin tissues in a shorter time. Fingers on single-cells assist them in achieving motility to survive. Understanding the fingers on these systems is thus necessary to understand their evolution. But, these are complex to solve. In this thesis, we use simple fluid mechanical concepts to develop mathematical models for such biological systems and find the conditions under which they form fingers on their boundaries.
