An ironmaking blast furnace (BF) is a type of metallurgical reactor used to produce pig iron. The controlling and optimization of BF operations have been an industry concern, which is however conducted almost empirically. This study presents an integrated mathematical BF model that can be used to examine the effect of various controlling factors on BF performance under different conditions. After validation, the model was extended to multiple applications related to both conventional and innovative operations. This model has proven to be a cost-effective tool that provides systematic optimization strategies of the operating parameters in a comprehensive manner.
