Cost overruns are a common problem in mega rail projects, often due to a lack of transparency in cost management throughout the project lifecycle. 5D Building Information Modeling (5D-BIM) has been proposed as a solution to improve transparency and project governance. However, its implementation faces numerous challenges. This research explores how 5D-BIM can reduce cost overruns by creating a single source of truth, enhancing collaboration among stakeholders, and improving governance. The study includes a case study from Victoria, Australia, validating a new 5D-BIM framework through semi-structured interviews.
