Our understanding on the main controls of megathrust seismicity is far from complete, particularly on how modelling the system in 3D affects the related dynamics. In this thesis, I investigated the role of 3D slab loading along convergent margins on the generation of large megathrust seismicity using numerical modelling. In addition, I demonstrated the use of explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) in solving some facets of this problem.
