Bone is a dynamic tissue that adapts to the mechanical loads that it is subjected to. Following extra-physical activity, such as high intensity training, bone mass increases. Following lack of physical activity, such as bed-rest, bone mass decreases. In my thesis, I studied mechanical adaptation of bone using mathematical models. I have been able to formulate new hypotheses regarding how such phenomenon occurs at the cellular/microscopic scale and its implication for the strength of the whole bone.
