Mechanical Behaviour of Rocks with Veins and Joints under Confinement and Strain Rate

thesis
posted on 2024-09-18, 23:55 authored by Haojun Wang
Veins are mineral-filled structures within rocks that can decrease rock strength and shift failure modes from tensile to shear. This thesis analyses the mechanical behaviour and fracture process of veined rocks under various loading conditions to investigate the vein distribution effect by integrating experimental results with numerical models. Then this study focuses on shear failure under different strain rate, assessing the cumulative damage and weakening of rock specimens. Finally, it compares the reinforcement on bolted specimens under various shear loading. These findings contribute to enhancing the stability of rock structures and developing safer geotechnical applications.
