This thesis examines the relationship between factors of existential anxiety and support for extremism and violent extremism. The findings suggest that people who are searching for meaning in their lives also have higher levels of support for extremism and violent extremism. Search for meaning is also linked to utilising religion for non-religious goals, which in turn is linked to higher support for violent extremism. The findings also suggest that people who feel that they lack control and feel lonely, think that they have little political power, which in turn is linked to higher support for violent extremism.
