This thesis argues that the acting process is subject to a rupture when performing in translation. Confronted with multiple layers of translation, the actor experiences a sense of displacement that finds a counterpart in the displacement of the character Masha Prozorov in Chekhov’s Three Sisters. The reflection of this encounter in the liminal space of theatre facilitates awareness and creativity, enriching the actor’s experience. This helps the actor to identify, address and make sense of her own sense of displacement. The actor's proposal is unique, as it is her background and mindset.
