Climate change is affecting the environment and threatening the insect pollinators we need for one third of human food production. To understand these changes, we need fine-scale monitoring of insects, flowering plants and habitats worldwide. We cannot fulfil this need with manual labour. However, data posted on social network sites might help meet our requirements.
Here I show how to extract useful insights on pollinators and flowering plants from social network site photos. Since these photos were not posted for scientific research, there are many challenges involved. I show how to solve these challenges using recent Artificial Intelligence software.
