Influenza A virus infections are notorious in causing annual epidemics and pandemics throughout history. It causes death by triggering an excessive response by our immune system, which eventually damages the respiratory tract and causes it to lose its protective barrier. Next, secondary bacterial infection takes the opportunity to harm the host and cause death. In this thesis, we investigate the role of a particular protein in influenza A virus and how it manipulates the host immune system for its own benefit.
