The higher incidence of Parkinson's disease (PD) in men compared to women hint the protective role of the estrogen hormone. This study explored the possible neuroprotection of three estrogenic compounds in a cellular model mimicking the death of nerve cells in PD. However, these estrogenic compounds did not rescue these nerve cells, prompting them to be further screened in other models of PD and to continue the search for disease-modifying drugs for this debilitating disease.
