thesis

Epilepsy affects approximately 70 million people worldwide and to date, there are some treatments that come with debilitating side effects or are ineffective against certain seizures. This thesis studies the potential anti-seizure property of 'Haruan' fish extract, which is popular among the locals in Malaysia. We found that the Haruan extract was able to reduce the severity and delay the onset time of seizures in adult zebrafish model. We also uncovered the potential mechanism involved in this pharmacological process.
