The thesis has the overarching goal of improving the light absorption and water-splitting capability of ZnO nanorods. 3-prong approach was used in an attempt to achieve this objective. These are the use of various concentration of bismuth dopants, varying growth time and the use of carbonated buffer and sulphate solution as electrolytes. The study posited that the use of 2 at.% of bismuth and carbonated buffer electrolyte are effective in enhancing photoactivity and photostability of ZnO nanorods
