This thesis examines the role of immune cells in blood vessel diseases such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure. It has identified novel functions of a class of immune cells, known as macrophages, and highlighted new strategies to limit their damaging effects. The information gained may lead to the development of innovative therapies for the treatment of high blood pressure and associated organ damage.
