I his study investigates the role of teachers in the current Research-Police-Praxis Nexus (RPPN). Ihis is achieved by a specific focus upon constructions of reading in the early years in Victoria. Australia. Over the past few years, a certain construction of reading has been promoted in Victoria, involving a particular discourse about reading in the early years. As a result, the majority of primary schools in this State are implementing the Victorian governments’ Early Years Literacy Program (EYLP). I his literacy program specifics that certain structures be put in place (most notably a two-hour literacy block) and specific practices be employed. In this manner the EYLP has the potential to reshape the teaching of reading in primary school. It is valuable to critically examine the construction of reading that is advocated by the EYLP and to understand if and how it relates to the professional knowledge and practice of primary school teachers who teach reading.
