Quality improvement (QI) is an important nursing skill to improve patient health outcomes and systems processes. This PhD investigated the role of QI education partnerships between higher education and healthcare organisations to teach nursing students. While the results indicated that QI partnerships are at an early stage of implementation in Australia, the advantages are that they increase student QI knowledge and understanding, and have mutual benefits for both higher education and the healthcare organisations through implementation of QI projects. QI education partnerships have the potential to increase vital QI workforce skills, which can have significant impacts on quality patient care.
