Lipid-based formulations have been researched for many years as a viable means to improve the oral bioavailability of poorly water-soluble lipophilic compounds. Among other developed lipid-based formulations, self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (SMEDDS) received an increased interest due to improved formulation and dispersion behaviours. Thus, the first part of the thesis investigates the evolution of colloidal phases during dispersion and digestion, and examine the solubilisation behaviour of lipophilic drugs during digestion. And, the second part of the research focuses on implementation of 3D printing technology for the preparation of solid-phase carrier-free solid SMEDDS formulations.
