This thesis investigates the use of personas in requirements engineering (RE) to enhance the understanding of end-users in software development. A systematic mapping study (SMS) examining persona use, outlining benefits and challenges in RE. The research progressed with a persona curation study, establishing a persona taxonomy, and interviews with RE experts on practical persona applications. Significant contributions are the SMS on persona use in RE, the Persona Corpus, persona presentation styles, a practical guideline for persona integration in RE, and the CRAFTER tool for automated persona generation, bridging the gap between academic and practical applications.
