Internal erosion is the process of fine soil particles detached and migrated in the porous media under the effect of seepage flow. This process can induce significant changes in the mechanical and physical properties of soils, leading to many hazardous phenomena such as dam/embankment failures, landslides and sinkholes. This research, therefore, is dedicated to providing micromechanical insights into fundamental behaviours of granular soils undergoing internal erosions and making use of this understanding to develop a macroscopic continuum constitutive model to capture the complex responses of eroded soils using both standard and machine-learning approaches.
