Interface and Strain Engineering in 2D Transition Metal Dichalcogenide-based Heterostructure (Opto)electronic Devices

This thesis aims to understand the properties of a new class of materials, called two-dimensional (2D) materials, that have interesting electronic and optoelectronic properties which can be utilised for developing nanoscale electronic device and optical sensors. The chapters of this thesis explore different nanoscale electronic device concepts, which are building blocks of modern semiconductor technologies, using 2D materials, specifically of the transition metal dichalcogenide family. Different different ideas are presented and the performance parameters are evaluated using experimental studies and computational methodologies.
