Instrumental practice with digital technology: Facilitating children's self-regulation of music learning

This research explores the role of digital technology in supporting children’s instrumental music learning between lessons. Many young children lack the self-regulatory skills required to solve musical problems and to self-manage their learning. An environment that promotes effective learning is imperative for engagement and meaningful progress. The findings suggest that the strategic use of digital tools can facilitate self-regulation of learning, but only when their use is aligned with learning needs and reinforced with consistent teacher guidance. This study concludes that technology can be utilised purposefully to manifest learner-centred environments in supporting students to become more independent and self-motivated musicians.
