Clostridioides difficile infections can be life-threatening and are often associated with antibiotic use. Infections often recur because the bacteria can form tough, dormant cells that can persist in many environments. This study first aimed to identify new antibiotics that specifically target the formation of these resilient cells. This investigation also characterised key proteins whose activity is essential in forming these dormant cells, offering novel ways to target and break the cycle of recurring C. difficile infections.
