This thesis describes a body of work specifically focusing on the influence of the capsule on powder emitted dose, fluidisation, de-agglomeration and drug-carrier detachment in the context of capsule-based dry powder inhalers namely the Rotahaler ® device. By modifying the movement of the capsule during device actuation, further insight into the dominant influence of capsule-based dry powder performance were attained.
