Influence of Inheritance in the Evolution of Divergence Triple Junction

thesis
posted on 2024-06-04, 01:25 authored by CHIBUZO GABRIEL CHUKWU
This thesis examines how continents break apart, focusing on a specific area where three plate edges meet and pull apart in southeast Australia. It uses advanced imaging techniques and data analysis to examine how old, buried structures in the Earth's crust influence the breaking process. The study finds that these old structures and differences in rock types and temperatures deep underground play a significant role in shaping the continents' and oceans' edges. It highlights continental breakup's complexity and the factors determining whether a rift develops fully or becomes inactive.
