As the number of older people undergoing surgery increases, so too does the need to provide high-quality care to these people. Such models of care do exist, but they are complex and not commonly used. My thesis examines the models of care for older people undergoing surgery in three hospitals. It describes the components of these models and how they are implemented. I examine ways to measure the pre- and post-surgical outcomes of this care from the perspectives of older people. I present a guide I developed with healthcare providers, that supports the implementation of these models of care in local hospitals.
