Radiation therapy advanced practitioners are expert radiation therapists who help streamline the patient experience through radiation therapy. Successful implementation of radiation therapy advanced practitioners has been reported internationally, however implementation in Australia has been sporadic with little evidence of outcomes. The aim of this research was to understand the factors that may be influencing the implementation of radiation therapy advanced practitioners in Australia. It was discovered that personal, functional, and cultural uncertainty; powerful others; value; and transitional professional identity were the key influencing factors. Structural change, advocacy, and national guidance for practitioners are necessary to improve the current state.
