This PhD explores the outcomes of three different healthy food retail policies implemented by a hospital, a sports and recreation provider, and a series of local councils. Successful implementation of the policies relied on supporting retailers with practical resources, demonstrating success through small, low-risk changes, and considering business outcomes. These policies effectively reduced purchases of unhealthy food and drink options. Financial outcomes were dependent on access to affordable and acceptable healthy alternatives, a challenge for retailers selling mainly packaged options. This PhD demonstrates the feasibility and purchasing impacts of food retail policies implemented by health-promoting organisations.
