Portland cement concrete is the most widely used building material in the world, but also one of the most environmentally destructive. To minimize its carbon footprint and other detrimental impacts, we need to consume less of it. And that means making concrete with better performance. This thesis introduces an approach to optimize concrete's main binder, calcium-silicate-hydrate (C-S-H), and realize smarter, stronger, and more durable cementitious materials.
