Good mothering, economic security and violence: Bangladeshi women domestic workers’ experiences in Saudi Arabia

thesis
posted on 2024-07-02, 02:34 authored by LUBNA JEBIN
Due to a lack of paid work opportunities in Bangladesh, many women migrate to Saudi Arabia for domestic work. In these paid domestic work journeys, this thesis explores how women migrant domestic workers experience, understand, and define violence. Also, examines women's struggles within patriarchal violence. I found that patriarchal structures and practices deliberately violate women’s autonomy and economic security. However, women have the ability to challenge these structures and achieve economic security. Overall, this thesis contributes to the global calls for an attention to women’s economic security to eliminate different forms of violence in women’s lives.
